The motor units gave the “Vindobona” train an unmistakable look for 35 years. In particular, the German VT 18.16 (VT 175, finally BR 675), nicknamed “Dolphin” for its excellent aerodynamic design, became its symbol and is identified with “Vindobona”. VT 18.16 were used to lead this train in 1966-1969 and 1972-1979. These units were made by VEB Waggonbau Görlitz and 8 sets were produced in the years 1963-1968. They had an axle arrangement B’2 ‘+ 2’2’ + 2’2 ‘+ 2’B’, weight 213 t, length 93360 mm, power 2x 736 kW, top speed 160 km/h and 157 seats (of which 23 in 1st class).
