Train D 541 (Chur – St. Moritz) led by the locomotive Ge 4/4 644 “Savognin” goes on the Landwasseviadukt and is heading directly into the 216-metre long Landwassertunnel.
Writing about this amazing construction work is probably useless, every fan (not only) of the Albula Railway knows it. But whenever I see it and perceive its parameters, i.e. a track curve with a radius of only 100 metres, a height of 65 metres and a length of 142 metres, the viaduct’s masonry is approximately 9,200 cubic metres in volume and it comprises six arch spans, 20 metres in width, resting on five high pillars and the train goes directly against a vertical rock face like in Harry Potter movies, it’s fascinating to me
